The Hygge style originates from Denmark, a country known for its long, dark winters. The concept of hygge (pronounced "hoo-gah") is difficult to translate directly into English, but it can best be described as a feeling of wellbeing, comfort, and conviviality.

The word "hygge" comes from the Norwegian term hyggja, meaning "to take pleasure" or "to find comfort." It first appeared in written Danish in the nineteenth century and has since become closely associated with the idea of feeling content at home and enjoying the company of loved ones.

Over time, hygge evolved into a true way of life in Denmark, where its principles have become deeply integrated into everyday living and interior design. The concept later gained popularity internationally, particularly in the United States, the United Kingdom, and France.

Hygge is often viewed as a response to modern lifestyles and technology, which can create feelings of stress and overstimulation. It encourages people to slow down, appreciate life's simple pleasures, and focus on meaningful human connections.

Born from both the challenges of dark Nordic winters and the demands of contemporary life, hygge promotes a comfortable, relaxed, and welcoming way of living. It is about feeling good at home and prioritising what truly matters.

The Hygge philosophy naturally lends itself to interior design, where soft colours and natural materials are used to create a warm and calming atmosphere.

Soft lighting, candles, cosy blankets, and moments shared with family and friends are all part of a lifestyle centred on wellbeing, relaxation, and togetherness.

Hygge interiors favour soft and soothing colours such as white, beige, light grey, and dusty pink. These gentle tones create a calm and serene atmosphere throughout the home.

Natural Materials
